Support
The mech that can't swing a hammer but can keep the whole team swinging.
The Support is one of the four core mech archetypes in Into the Breach, serving as the team's lifeline in a game where every lost point of HP is a point of HP you can never get back. Where the Vanguard soaks hits, the Assault and Sniper pour out damage, the Support exists to keep the whole squad standing long enough to win the fight.
Equipped with Heal and Boost, the Support is the only mech that cannot deal direct damage to Vek. This makes it simultaneously the most fragile unit on the board and the most irreplaceable: lose it, and your team's ability to sustain through multi-turn engagements collapses almost immediately.

Lore & Background
In the fractured world of Into the Breach, humanity clings to survival in scattered settlements while the Vek—vast, chitinous, hive-minded creatures—press their advance across the landscape. The mechs are not grand war machines but compact, pilot-integrated suits, each built around a single tactical doctrine. The Support suit is the lightest of the four, its armor thin, its frame narrow. It was never meant to stand in the line of fire.
Pilots of Support suits are, by necessity, the most calculating members of a squad. Every turn they must weigh whether to mend a crack in the Vanguard's plating, top off the Assault before a Charge, or spend their action amplifying the Sniper's next shot. There is no room for hesitation, because the Vek do not negotiate and the grid does not forgive. A Support pilot who misreads a turn can watch three mechs fall in the space of two moves.
The game's chess-like structure—where the player sees the Vek's next move before acting—makes the Support's role feel less like a video game ability and more like a surgeon's decision under pressure. You are not just healing a number; you are choosing which mech lives and which one becomes a corpse on the grid.
In Their Own Story
The dust hadn't settled from the last volley when the Vek skittered into the ridge line, mandibles clicking in that wet, rhythmic sound every pilot learned to hate. Kael checked the Support's readout: two HP left on the Vanguard, one on the Assault. The Sniper was full but two tiles out of range.
"Boost the Sniper," Kael said, not looking up. "Then I'm done."
The Support's frame whined as it slid one tile left, its thin hull catching the pale light. The cross on its back glowed a soft amber. One action: a pulse of energy lanced two tiles out, and the Sniper's optics flared as its attack stat climbed. The next action: the same pulse, gentler this time, threading into the Vanguard's cracked shoulder plate. Two HP restored. Enough.
The Vek lunged. The Sniper fired. The ridge went quiet again, except for the faint tick of cooling metal and the distant, patient click of chitin that meant there were more of them coming.
Reader's Guide
Heal (Range 2): Restores a set amount of HP to any friendly mech within two tiles, including yourself. It is your primary survival tool. Use it reactively—when the Vek have just struck and a mech is at low HP—or proactively, patching a Vanguard before it enters a dangerous tile. Because the Support has no attack, every turn you spend Healing is a turn you are NOT Boosting, so prioritize the mech whose damage output will be wasted if it dies.
Boost (Range 2): Temporarily increases the attack stat of a friendly mech within two tiles for that turn. This is where the Support becomes an offensive weapon. Pairing Boost with the Assault's Charge (which already adds movement damage) or the Sniper's Snipe (high base damage) can turn a normal hit into a one-shot kill, especially against low-HP Vek like the Skitter or the small swarm units.
Terrain & Positioning: The Support is the weakest mech on the board. Keep it two tiles behind the Vanguard, who can Shield and Push to create a buffer. Avoid open tiles where Vek can flank. If a Vek is adjacent to the Support, use the Vanguard's Push to eject it before the Vek's turn resolves.
Synergy: Boost + Charge is the highest-damage combo in the game. Heal + Vanguard Shield creates a near-unbreakable front line. In multi-Vek turns, heal the mech that will act next so it enters its attack at full strength.
Did You Know?
- The Support is the only one of the four mech archetypes that has no ability capable of dealing damage to Vek, making it purely a defensive and enabling role.
- Because Into the Breach is a perfect-information game (you see the Vek's next move before acting), the Support's decisions are made with full knowledge of what is about to happen, turning each Heal or Boost into a precis
- The Support's lack of offensive capability means that in a multi-turn battle, every turn it spends Healing is a turn the team is NOT dealing damage, creating a constant tension between survival and aggression.
- In the game's grid-based movement, the Support's two-tile ability range means it can reach any mech in a small 5x5 area around it, making positioning relative to the rest of the squad its single most important tactical c
