Reposition
A tactical teleport that swaps a mech with any adjacent ally or enemy in an instant.
Reposition is a unique tactical maneuver available exclusively to the Vanguards class of mechs within the Vek defense program. Unlike standard movement actions that consume the entire turn or are limited by grid distance, Reposition allows a mech to swap places with an adjacent unit—either a friendly ally or an enemy Vek creature. This ability serves as a cornerstone of high-level strategy, transforming the battlefield from a static grid into a dynamic chessboard where positioning is everything.

Lore & Background
In the lore of the Vek conflict, this ability represents humanity's shift from brute force to surgical precision. It is not merely a movement tool but a statement of control over the battlefield geometry. By allowing a Vanguard to place an enemy directly into the line of fire of another mech or swap a fragile unit out of harm's way, Reposition embodies the Vek defense doctrine: protect the timeline by manipulating the present moment with absolute precision.
In Their Own Story
The rain hissed against the reinforced plating of Vanguard Unit 7 as the massive Varkid loomed, its maw dripping corrosive slime. Behind it, a fragile Sentinel was cornered against the cliff edge, its shields flickering out. There was no time to retreat, and the distance was too great for a standard dash. 'Initiate swap,' the pilot commanded, voice steady despite the shaking ground. With a hum of displaced air, Unit 7 vanished from its defensive stance and materialized instantly in front of the beast, while the Sentinel found itself safely behind the Vanguard's heavy armor. The Varkid lunged at empty space, only to meet the crushing weight of a counter-attack.
Reader's Guide
Reposition is primarily used for rescue operations and enemy manipulation. A player can swap a damaged ally out of an attack range or into cover instantly. Conversely, swapping with an enemy places that threat directly in front of your other mechs, often triggering their auto-attacks or setting them up to be crushed by falling debris. Range is strictly limited to the eight tiles surrounding the active mech. The destination tile must be occupied; you cannot Reposition into empty space. However, the swap ignores terrain blocking the path between units, meaning a wall does not prevent a swap if both start and end positions are valid for the respective mechs. Synergy is key: swapping an enemy next to a heavy-hitting mech with high range can force that enemy to take damage before they act. Additionally, Repositioning allows you to bypass 'push' mechanics by placing enemies directly into hazards or off cliffs without moving your own unit.
Did You Know?
- Reposition is one of the few abilities that can move an enemy unit against their will without dealing direct damage first.
- The ability works on all adjacent tiles, including diagonals, making cornered enemies vulnerable to being swapped into open fire lanes.
- Swapping with a Vek creature does not trigger its turn or action; it merely changes its location for the current phase.
